3> Comprehensive Program

About IELTS Exam

The IELTS examination is the most extensively acknowledged test for English language proficiency throughout the world and has been a requisite for a myriad of professionals to be able to settle and study in the developed world. It assesses all the parameters of English language to test an applicant’s competence level at the language. It is accepted in countries like Australia, Canada, USA, UK, New Zealand. The score holds validity for a span of two years from the date of result and it usually takes 13 days from the day of the test for the results to be declared

The test may be taken up in Academic or General test type depending upon the purpose for which the exam is being appeared for. The academic Examination is basically for the candidates who seek for education in the developed world whereas the General Test is for the candidates who look up to immigration into countries like Australia, Canada, New Zealand and so forth.

IELTS Test Structure

The test is conducted into four different modules whereby it assess a candidate’s proficiency in all the spheres of the language. Also, the test is varied for Academic and General module test-takers in the Reading and Writing disciplines.

(A)- IELTS Speaking

The speaking section is comprised of three sections.
Section 1- In the first section, the candidate is asked general questions related to his interests, hobbies or choices.
Section 2- in the second round, the candidate is handed over a cue-card which carries a question along with 3 to 4 clues concerning the same. The candidate is given one minute to prepare himself and 2 minutes to answer the question.
Section 3- In the third section, the test taker is asked questions related to the topic in the cue card round where he is required to answer the questions in an elaborate manner.

(B)- IELTS Listening

The test has four sections. There are four different audios for the candidate to listen to wherein for each section he has to answer 10 questions and a total number of 40 questions for four parts. The score is awarded in accordance with the number of correct answers out of 40.
Section 1- a conversation between two people
Section 2- a monologue providing description about a certain thing
Section 3- an academic conversation which may be between two or more people
Section 4- a lecture

(C)- IELTS Reading

For Academic-

The academic reading consists of 3 passages where there are 13 to 14 questions for each passage. The passages are generally related to research based topics.

For General-

The general reading is comprised of 3 different sections and a total count of 5 passages where the topics for the first four are related to general concerns and the fifth one is a research based topic.
For both the above said modules, the total number of questions are 40 and the band score is calculated from the total number of correct answers.

(D)- IELTS Writing

(a) For Academic:

The Academic test embodies two tasks.
Task 1- it is an academic report where the candidate needs to explain a diagram in words. The minimum word count is 150 words and the allotted time is 20 minutes.
Task 2- An essay needs to written on an argumentative question. The minimum word count is minimum 250 words and the allotted time is 40 minutes.

For General:

This test type has 2 tasks to be accomplished.
Task 1- the first first in this domain is a letter. It could be of formal, informal or semi-formal in concern. The time taken on this is 20 minutes and the minimum word limit is 150 words.
Task 2- An essay needs to written on an argumentative question. The minimum word count is minimum 250 words and the allotted time is 40 minutes. Duration. The total test duration is around 2 hours and 45 minutes for completion of the test. There are no breaks allotted to the candidate during the test.

Duration of IELTS Exam

The total test duration is around 2 hours and 45 minutes for completion of the test. There are no breaks allotted to the candidate during the test. Speaking module generally takes 11 to 14 minutes precisely. Listening goes on for 40 minutes wherein the audios are played in 30 minutes and 10 minutes are given to transfer the answers. Writing- the allocated time is 60 minutes.
